Some Foods Just Sound Healthy.Keep Reading the Labels

Many of the healthiest foods are not heavily advertised. So we need to be wary of the "heart healthy" product claims being made out there in TV land especially.

Here are some examples of foods to avoid and how to replace them:

* Cereal bars, sports bars and lowcarb bars may seem like magic foods packed with nutrition, but most of them are high in fat and calories instead. Fresh fruit or a cup of yogurt are truly nutritious alternatives. Each contains almost half our daily need for calcium and twice the fiber of the average cereal bar.

* Whole-grain crackers sound healthy, but a single serving of wheat thins contains more cholesterolraising trans fats than three chocolate chip cookies and almost as much total fat. Plain, light popcorn is one alternative, and your best bet is to always read the ingredients listed on a snack-food label and stay away from the hydrogenated oils. …
