Consumers willing to pay for an independent appraisal of their medications can sign up to get reports on potentially dangerous drug interactions.

Rx-aware Inc. is hoping to cash in by filling an information gap that leaves many patients in the dark about the potential dangers of mixing medications, said president David Lamson. The Port Jefferson, N.Y., firm also believes its service could improve drug therapy outcomes and reduce expensive trips to the hospital due to drug interactions for some of the estimated 80 million Americans who take two or more medications.

Rx-aware is offering for a limited time a lifetime membership for $15.95, which includes the initial interaction report. Each subsequent report costs $5.95. Members provide a list of all the medications they are taking, including any over-the-counter drugs. If members begin to take additional Rx or OTC medications, they can order another analysis to be sure the drugs added to their therapy mix are not time bombs that could sabotage their therapy, land them in the hospital, or worse. …
