Supermarket Network Finds Partner in Claims Manager

Super Net, the nationwide supermarket pharmacy network, is trying to break into the mainstream with a new marketing and processing partner. Dallas-based Prescription Claims Management (PCM) will administer Super Net, process claims, and market the network to third-party plan sponsors.

Super Net has already signed several union and industry contracts, said Terry Cater, Super Net president and director of pharmacy for Save Mart Supermarkets in California. The network is close to signing its first insurer, he added.

The next target is supermarket prime vendors, who, Cater said, "have a vested interest in seeing us succeed." Nationwide, supermarkets employ about four million, who support another six million dependents. Cater spoke at the Supermarket Pharmacy Conference in San Francisco. Starting from a base of six West Coast chains in 1992, Super Net has built membership to 64 chains with 4,000 R.Ph.s around the country.
