Fun, effective ideas to celebrate your bank's anniversary

Banks, like people, have birthdays. So it's good cause for celebration when a bank reaches a special milestone.

Often I get calls from bankers who are looking for ways to promote the opening of a new branch, a new bank or their institutions' anniversary. The majority of the calls, though, are interested in the latter. For example, one banker wanted tips on how to promote her bank's 100th year anniversary. Shortly after that call, another banker wanted ideas on how to celebrate a five-year anniversary. The range varies from bank to bank.

It seems bankers are not willing to let these special occasions go unnoticed nor should they. If your bank is approaching an anniversary, here are a few tips to get the most out of the event. Most of these tips can be easy implemented for very minimal or no costs at all.

Plan special events.

Organize an event ranging from a customer appreciation party to a birthday celebration for the bank. Though event planning can be a timeconsuming process, it is an excellent way to get local leaders face-to-face with customers. It also allows customers to meet bank staff from various departments.

Papticipate in parades and fairs.

Sponsor an anniversary float for a local parade or participate in local fairs, festivals and events. This gives you an opportunity to increase awareness of your bank's anniversary and make bank staff visible in the community.

Create a special anniversary logo.

Consider designing a special logo or place an anniversary acknowledgement on your existing logo (this is usually more cost effective). Use the logo on all marketing and letterhead pieces throughout the year.

Publish your bank's history.

Create a display for your lobby, publish a timeline for your newsletter, write a press release about a significant event that occurred in your bank's history. …
