Dialog has announced the winner of its Roger K. Summit scholarship. A graduate student at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, Retha Claasen-Veldsman, won the award for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region. This award is named for the founder of Dialog, Roger K. Summit, and the scholarship is given in different regions of the world to graduate students enrolled in library or information science programs.

According to the announcement, Claasen-Veldsman is working toward an M.A. in development communication at the University of Pretoria's department of Information Science, where she is writing her dissertation on the use of audio technology to foster understanding of HIV/AIDS among disadvantaged communities. She is also a junior lecturer in the department of Information Science.

Claasen-Veldsman holds a B.A. in information science from the University of Pretoria.

Access Innovations, Inc. announced that Gina Woodhouse has been appointed technical director of customer care for its Data Harmony line of products. In this position, she will work directly with customers to resolve technical issues and provide user support. Woodhouse joined Access Innovations as a customer care specialist in 2004. Previously, she worked as a programmer at a software company and as a JAVA tutor at a local vocational school.

Wolters Kluwer Health has announced three new executive appointments to its Medical Research division, which includes Ovid Technologies and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW).

Linda Holder was named vice president and chief financial officer. In this position, she will manage the financial staff and procurement functions. Most recently, Holder was a financial manager at Hewlett-Packard, Inc. Previously, she held senior financial management positions at Digital Equipment Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp. She holds an M.B.A. from Nanyang Technological University and is a C.P.A.

Neil Schmidt joins the company as vice president of operations. He will be responsible for global operational initiatives. Prior to this, Schmidt was at INVENSYS, PLC and American Cytoscope Makers, Inc. Before that, he served in various management roles in operations and marketing at General Electric Medical Systems. Schmidt holds a B.A. from National University and an M.B.A. from Rutgers University.

Paul Weislogel will be the new executive vice president of LWW Journal Publishing. Most recently, he was LWW's director of strategic society relations. Prior to this, he was at Reed Elsevier for 24 years, most recently serving as vice president of global society relations in its Health Science Division. Weislogel is a graduate of Iowa State University and holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University.

Factiva announced the promotion of Alan Scott to chief marketing officer.

Most recently, he was Factiva's vice president and director of global marketing. Before that, he was vice president of marketing at Giga Information Group. Previously, he was group vice president of marketing at the Gartner Group.
