Selection Committee

The 2005 selection committee is comprised of the past recipients of the John Hope Franklin Awards along with Black Issues In Higher Education editor-in-chief Frank L. Matthews.

* Dr. Deborah Wilds,The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

* Dr. David Levering Lewis, Julius Silver University Endowed Professor, New York University and two-time Pulitzer Prize winning historian

* Black Issues In Higher Education, Frank L. Matthews, Publisher/Editor-ln-Chief

In seeking to further institutionalize and celebrate his scholarly contributions, Black Issues In Higher Education is proud to announce the second annual John Hope Franklin Awards. Historian, educator, humanitarian and scholar, Franklin has made significant contributions to shaping the perspective of American history in the 20th century.

The recipients of the 2005 awards reflect Franklins' overall high standard of excellence. Chosen by a blue-ribbon panel of judges, including respected leaders in higher education, government and private industry, the award winners are truly deserving of representing Franklin's legacy.They will be presented with their medallions at a gala dinner on May 21 as the culminating event of the Benchmarks and Barriers Conference.
