Dropping in on competitions and conventions this summer, one thing became very clear to me. Though finalists possess top technique and fantastic stage presence, they also seem to understand that winning or besting others is not the key to success. Most important are the lessons learned during challenging stage and studio adventures, whether competition, convention, dance concert, rehearsal or class.

A weekly poll from dancespirit.com revealed that 60% of you view competition as a performance opportunity, while another 15% use it as a chance to learn new moves. No wonder so many of you have a level-headed handle on these exhilarating but intense affairs!
