Project Watchdog Partners with Preview Forum

Article excerpt

In the spring, a SPJ chapter leader's fancy turns to panic at the thought of filling out the annual report. Have we done a Project Watchdog program yet?

There's no need to fear; a Watchdog program in a box is here. SPJ announces its new partnership with Preview Forum, a Ford Foundation-funded project designed to foster substantive, deliberative dialogue between journalists and the communities they serve.

Call or write today for your copy of "The News We Need," the spring 2005 program kit from Preview Forum. It includes a video or DVD to generate local discussion, planning and topic guidelines, facilitator training kit, fliers and postcards, press release and publicity templates, and links to an online training center and Web site with more ideas.

Preview Forum's previous programs include a look at obesity and its effect on communities, ethnicity and race in a changing America and local effects of globalization. The Forum puts out two programs each year, in the spring and fall, so it's a nobrainer to do a Watchdog program.

Contact Preview Forum at previewforum@roundtablemedia.com, or previewforum.com or 781-893-3336. Send mail requests to Preview Forum, Roundtable Inc., 8 Common St., Waltham, MA 02451.

If you want to invent your own program, check out the revised Project Watchdog manual on SPJ's Web site. This lean, barking machine is a sleek eight pages full of the history of Project Watchdog, program ideas and logistics for planning and executing programs. You'll find it online at https://www.spj.org/spj_programs_watchdog.asp.

Project Watchdog is where SPJ's missions of FOI and ethics converge. …
