Under the Random_Inc moniker, German Sebastian Meissner has carved out a niche as an esteemed European experimental electronic sound artist. With his two most recent releases-the Random_Inc remix album Walking in Jerusalem, and the showcase of Israeli/Palestinian audio and visual artists, Bizz Circuits play lntifada Offspring-Meissner has taken on the ambitious multiple roles of composer, producer, filmmaker, and curator in order to present an impressive snapshot of the connections between alternative culture and politics in Israel.

Walking in Jerusalem is a remix of the first Random_Inc full-length, Jerusalem: Tales from Outside the Framework of Orthodoxy (2003). The original album featured a symbolic ten-minute track of silence that divided in half another twenty-seven tracks of Meissner's digital blend of field recordings of traditional Jewish and Arab musicians that he made while wandering in the segmented city. For Walking, Meissner handed those tracks to electronic producers like Dub Taylor and the Rip-Off Artist to create a rich collection of moods ranging from the percussive mournfulness of "Meets Electric Birds in Mamillah" to the charged political atmospherics of "Meets Ultra-Red in Deir Yassin (Daya Yasin). …
