Last October 30, 31, and November 1, hundreds of information professionals gathered in Chicago for the ONLINE '95 Conference and Exhibition. This annual three-day event is packed with exhibits, demonstrations, seminars, discussions, and presentations for professionals eager to learn about the latest products and services in the online industry. It draws visitors from around the world.

Keynote speaker Jerome S. Rubin, chairman of the News in the Future Program at MIT, presented attendees with his vision of the future shape of information technology and its delivery mechanisms. Donald T. Hawkins, Senior Information Scientist and Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Consumer Multimedia Services, delivered the Endnote Address, "Gale Winds of Change in the Information Industry." Both speakers offered insightful views of the rapidly changing information industry.

Attendees filled the Grand Ballroom for the Industry Announcements session to see demonstrations of exciting new products and services from Questel*Orbit, SandPoint Company, Responsive Database Systems, Engineering Information, DataTimes, UMI, Knight-Ridder, NewsNet, Information Access Company, and Online Inc.

A packed Exhibit Hall featured displays by online services, database producers, information brokers, developers, resellers, microcomputer and software manufacturers, CD-ROM producers, and other organizations that serve information professionals.

The Breakout Sessions enabled attendees to delve more deeply into specific topics, such as the Internet, consumer online services, CD-ROM, CD-Recordable, and publishing on the World Wide Web. In Roundtable Discussion Groups, participants networked with peers on such topics as business libraries, legal issues in information, and CD-ROM LAN environments.

Throughout the conference, attendees enjoyed numerous opportunities to learn about new online developments and network with colleagues. …
