I HAD great fun the other night at a new bridge club in Chelsea - 'London Bridge' - set up by Charlie Hunter, an ex-City man who has always had a passion for the game. The club has a pleasantly relaxed feel to it. There are none of the usual hard-boiled addicts and intimidating experts; the atmosphere is more like a living room where you're sitting around with friends.

Games are played for money, but Charlie aims to keep stakes low so that no one need leave feeling they've been taken to the cleaners. The club also offers duplicate bridge and lessons. A particular bonus is that on Tuesday evenings the England player David Price gives tips on how to improve your technique, and goes through some of the hands he played in the recent European championships.

David's class is designed to help players deal with situations which occur frequently at the table. …
