On Monday 23 August the second Staunton Memorial tournament organised by the Staunton Society takes place at Simpson's-in-the-Strand. As last year, the format is a four-player grandmaster tournament on a double round basis at classical time limits. Spectators are welcome on the playing days which are 23, 24, 25, 27, 28 and 29 August. There will be daily commentaries during the afternoon by international master Bob Wade OBE. Last year's tournament produced a brilliant crop of games of which the following was perhaps the best. The puzzle this week is a fine example by Staunton himself. The players this year are grandmasters Jon Speelman, Daniel King and Jon Levitt, as well as Jovanka Houska, Britain's top female player.
