TIME to open the champagne at TGR's: a team captained by Charles Wigoder, who owns the club, has won the Cavendish Teams in Las Vegas - a hugely prestigious invitation-only event. His partner was another TGR's regular, Gunnar Hallberg, and their teammates were two New Zealanders, Michael Cornell and Richard Jedrychowski.

I'm pleased not just for Charles, but also for the club - its status is bound to be enhanced when its members make their mark on the world stage. And this isn't just a selfless feeling, of course: I get a buzz from being reminded just how high the standard is at TGR's; its members ought to be able to walk into any other bridge club in the world and not feel intimidated.
