* The National Association of Educational Inspectors has voted to change its name to the Association of Professionals in Education and Children's Trusts (Aspect). General secretary John Chowcat said the move reflected ministers' plans for closer collaboration between education, health and social services staff.

* Public and Commercial Services union leaders this week met Margaret Prosser, head of the Women at Work Commission, to discuss the Prison Service's appeal against 2,500 equal pay claims. The PCS wants Prosser to condemn appeals against claims made by female staff.

* Public Finances official circulation figure has increased by 5.8% to a new high of 24,357. The Audit Bureau of Circulations confirmed the new figure this week for the period from July 2004 to June 2005.

* The Ministry of Defence has awarded BT a £21 m contract to extend its e-learning system to accommodate 300,000 users. …
