The Ahrens Institute: From Concept to Concrete

NRPA has been engaging in a great deal of celebration these days, and with good reason. We have achieved a critical goal that will help to advance our Association and set the stage for the achievement of long range goals and objectives. The success of the Fulfilling the Challenge campaign, initiated by Claude Ahrens' generous pledge, has been overwhelming. The Association has raised $1.75 million in pledges and contributions to date. Combined with a generous land donation from Loudoun County, the funds will allow for the construction of a multi-use national visitors and educational center for the parks and recreation movement.

The celebration continues as the Ahrens NRPA Institute project moves from concept to concrete and the building plans are unveiled. Ground will be broken for the new state-of-the-art facility this March with completion scheduled for spring of 1997. After years of conceptualizing, assessing and planning, we have tangible evidence of our success.

As a member of the Fulfilling the Challenge campaign team, I can truly appreciate the contributions made to this effort from every segment of the NRPA membership and the parks and recreation field as a whole. …
