For a long time Prospects Services Ltd have been marketing a range of interactive programmes under the Real Game brand to meet the broad needs of Careers Education Guidance (CEG). The Davies Report's definition of Enterprise Education has embraced a lot of the Careers Education agenda and as a consequence the EBEA has been keenly interested to see how Prospects will tailor their mature, well tried and tested products to the needs of the Enterprise agenda. The result is the "Be Real Game", which retails at £90, and is designed to address the KS4 curriculum requirements of CEG, WRL, Enterprise and Financial Capability. It also has the potential to be used with post 16 E2E students.

The Be Real Game is a series of teacher led inter active games, which take students through many of the key life decisions they must make about careers, lifestyles, budgeting, dealing with unexpected events and so on. It is fun and interesting for the students as they can immediately relate to the decisions they are asked to make in creating their "future lives". Like adults they all want to do well, have a good lifestyle and enjoy themselves. That is, until the ghastly truth dawns that they are going to have to make compromises, plan and budget and those great salaries after tax seem to equal at least the sum of their outgoings. Much of the interest comes from the students interacting with each other and reflecting together on what strategies they can use. The excitement of these games emerges as students get into role and empathise completely with the decisions young adults have to make.

The games can be delivered in a variety of flexible ways to suit any institution, e.g anything from two half days to modules slotted into an established PSE programme. …
