* Only a quarter of the money raised from council right to buy sales since the mid-1980s has been reinvested in public housing, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation claimed this week. Foundation director Lord Best said there was a striking contrast between the large financial gains made by the Treasury and the money spent on new homes for rent and low-cost ownership.

* The BBC has revamped its finance division to cut costs. It is proposing a reduction of posts in BBC Finance from 650 to 260 by 2007/08, a new specialist finance centre at its Cardiff HQ and the outsourcing of around 40 jobs to an external provider.

* The deadline for applying for primary teacher training has been put back because of an IT failure. The Graduate Teacher Training Registry acted after complaints that applicants could not access its website. …
