NCEA Convention Shifts to Atlanta for April 2006

The damage left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina has forced NCEA to shift the location of the 2006 convention originally scheduled for New Orleans April 18-21. The convention now will meet in Atlanta, Georgia, for the first time ever.

The convention theme of "Charting the Future in Challenging Times" and the previously announced dates remain the same.

The invitation to convene in Atlanta was extended to Catholic educators by the Most Reverend Wilton D. Gregory, S.L.D., archbishop of Atlanta and former president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

"Archbishop Gregory's timely and enthusiastic invitation to come to Atlanta was an opportunity that we were pleased to accept," said Karen M. Ristau, NCEA president. "We are especially delighted that we will bring our national meeting to this great city for the first time."

Dr. Ristau added the decision to convene in Atlanta followed a long and comprehensive search for a new venue. "The archbishop's kind hospitality was a deciding factor, along with the desire to locate close to New Orleans since the majority of our 450 convention speakers come from that area. …
