The toppled Mafia chieftain,

Cameras record a smile

Of martyred resignation

To the nine slugs that stopped

His late spaghetti dinner.

Perhaps he was amused

With bullets fired after

The first two scored mid chest,

Or scorned those in his guts

And thrown extremities

Like little paper cuts.

His game was tough-guy tag

And he's it now, in spades.

Forget the cash diverted,

The pimp and capo legs

Once crisply ordered broken,

The stubborn mouths and noses

Set up to bloom point blank

Like stricken scarlet roses;

Forget that one good friend

He tagged himself while winning

Some enforcer's favor,

Near the game's beginning. …
