Prudential Makes Major Changes to Rx Operation

Prudential Pharmacy Management president Allan Zimmerman resigned from the firm following a move by parent company The Prudential Insurance Co. of America to relocate its pharmacy headquarters and reorganize its upper management. Zimmerman is the immediate past-president of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.

At least 16 other pharmacy administrators have also left the company. Among them are Darlene Mednick, v.p., pharmacy operations, and Kent Summers, v.p., pharmacoeconomics, informed sources told Drug Topics. Company officials would not comment on the managerial exodus.

Prudential Insurance plans to move its pharmacy headquarters from Roseland, N.J., to Atlanta, effective sometime between late this summer and early fall. Atlanta is the location of a key data management center for the parent company, an industry observer noted.

The move follows a decision by Prudential Pharmacy Management to buy Integrated Pharmacy Solutions, a provider of mail-order and in-house pharmacy services that has exclusively served Prudential's group-model managed care plans. The combined organizations will be called Prudential HealthCare Pharmacy Services.

Pharmacy operations are being consolidated as part of the move, said sources. …
