When it comes to performance and auditions, every female dancer knows that makeup is important for a professional presentation, but how about men? Male dancers often worry about the fine line between the dude looks cool and the dude looks like a lady! We gotthe inside scoop on makeup for male dancers from professional dancer/choreographer and competition judge Brian Anthony. Most male dancers rely on at least a little makeup to enhance and define their features. Large dance companies and productions, like Madonna or Britney Spears tours, usually have a makeup artist on staff to help out. When it's all up to you, consult this checklist to always look your best.

CLEAN UP YOUR ACT

Cleanse skin before exercising and don't forget to thoroughly remove makeup and perspiration after every performance to avoid breakouts. TIP: When using foundation to even out skin tone, it's important to first apply an oil-free moisturizer to keep skin smooth and help makeup last.

FLAWLESS FACE

Redness from hot lights and exertion, uneven skin color and breakouts should be corrected with a thin layer of oil-free foundation. Be sure to use a golden, yellow undertone to look more natural. TIP: Only use foundation or blemish concealers on your face, not under-eye concealers, which contain oil and can cause breakouts.

WAKE UP

Eliminate under-eye darkness with concealer used only where needed. TIP: To apply the least amount of concealer with the maximum amount of coverage, use a synthetic concealer brush. …
