Almost 9 in 10 employees say they are satisfied with their jobs, and the biggest contributor to their contentment is the respectful treatment of employees at all levels, according to the results of SHRM's 2017 Employee Job Satisfaction and Engagement Survey.

Women were more likely than men to point to respect as a very important component of job satisfaction. And Millennials were more likely than members of Generation X to report being very satisfied with the level of respect at work. Employees who aren't in management were far less likely than executives to be satisfied with the respect shown to all workers.

Other top contributors to job satisfaction were good compensation, a high level of trust between employees and senior management, job security, and opportunities to use skills and abilities. …
