The Middle East Institute (MEI) hosted Saudi Arabian Princess Basmah Bint Saud Bin Abdulaziz for a discussion on April 12, International Women's Day, about the growing role of women entrepreneurs in the Arab world and strategies for advancing female-led businesses. Basmah, who lives in Jeddah, argued that the greater engagement of women in the workforce and in leadership posts is key to ensuring a more prosperous and peaceful region. She discussed her experiences and insights, including the launch of a regional campaign to empower businesswomen.

Basmah described her own journey, as a divorcee raising five children, making her own money and growing in self-confidence as she re-invented herself, launching several successful careers. She's become-in turn and simultaneously-a successful journalist, fashion designer, organic farmer, writer, caterer, and owner of an art cafe that features work from artists from Dar Al-Hekma University. …
