Tom Hanks to Star in 'A Man Called Ove' Remake

Playtone, SF Studios to produce English-language remake.

Tom Hanks will star in the remake of A Man Called Ove as Swedish major SF Studios continues to exploit Nordic property and local talent through English-language films for the international market such as recent Toronto opener Borg/McEnroe.

Hanks will star as the titular curmudgeon whose life takes a turn when he strikes up a friendship with his exuberant new neighbours. He will also produce with his Playtone partner Gary Goetzman, Rita Wilson, and Fredrik Wikström Nicastro of SF Studios.

Fredrik Backman wrote the hit novel that spawned SF Studios’ original film directed by Hannes Holm that competed for the foreign-language and makeup and hairstyling Oscars this year.
