The non-profit organization Artworks for Freedom, dedicated to raising awareness and inspiring action on human trafficking, held city-wide events in Washington, DC?and its suburbs throughout the Fall of 2017. The festival included performance and spoken words programs at Busboys and Poets at its 14th &?V and Takoma Park locations on Oct. 8 and 9, respectively. An exhibit at DC's Watergate Gallery from Sept. 25 to Nov. 4, curated by noted artist Helen Frederick, deals with human trafficking as a kind of call and response exchange between visual artists and writers. The subjects include victims of modern slavery-immigrants and refugees at risk, and all those who have suffered loss of their freedom due to trafficking.
