Sony behemoth squares up to Fox challenger in sixth weekend.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle has led international box office for the past two sessions and will struggle to make it three in a row with the wide expansion this weekend of Fox’s Maze Runner: The Death Cure.

Jumanji has amassed $465.2m through Sony Pictures Releasing International and there are no new debuts this weekend. Meanwhile Blumhouse horror Insidious: The Last Key stands at $73.6m with no new markets either.

Fox International executives report an early $17.9m for Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which ventures into 69 territories led by China, the UK, Brazil, Spain, Russia, and Argentina.

2015 release Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials opened on $13.3m in China, $4.3m in the UK, and $2.6m in Brazil, $1.8m in Spain, and $861,000 in Argentina (numbers were unavailable for Russia), so Fox executives are hopeful the running total will climb to around $45m including holdovers by Monday.
