For more than five decades, Judy Dater's photographs have offered an unconventional and subversive twist on depictions of femininity. Now, her works are featured in the recently opened Reclaimed, a collection of all-female artists at the Linda Pace Foundation in San Antonio. Dater spoke to In These Times about her work.

What motivates your art?

I've always looked at cultural norms and pushed back against them. I felt that, through photography, I could say and show things that I didn't want to articulate in words.

How does ''reclaimed" fit into the current moment?

I think the #MeToo movement really accelerated the idea of women wanting to take back their own image, their own power, who they are as human beings. I anticipate it will have a big impact on the kind of art that we will see going forward. It makes you observe the world in a different way.
