Several honors were handed out during the fest: After accepting the inaugural Variety Cinema Icon Award at Hôtel du Cap, John Travolta grooved alongside 50 Cent onstage as he performed his catalog of hits at the "Gotti" bash. Patty Jenkins was feted with the Women in Motion Award, presented by Kering. And Variety recognized this year's 10 Producers to Watch at a breakfast with a view at the scenic La Plage Nespresso.

While LGBTQ rights have been shunted to the sidelines under the Trump administration, Ryan Murphy said he aims to do his part with his new FX series - which has made history by boasting the largest cast of transgender series regulars and LGBTQ recurring actors. "Our community is under such attack from this administration," Murphy said. "I just want [viewers] to be entertained and enlightened."
