Independent Budget Demands Access to Care for Veterans

VFW, along with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), released the latest edition of The Independent Budget (IB). The proposal coincides with President Donald Trump's 2019 budget recommendation for VA.

For 30 years, The IB has presented budget and policy recommendations to the executive and legislative branches of government. It informs lawmakers of veterans' needs and offers solutions to many health care and benefits challenges veterans face.

VFW, DAV and PVA praised Trump's proposal to increase VA's budget by $12.1 billion for 2018. The Trump Administration cited "much needed" increases in funding for VA health care, construction and information technology modernization for the increase.

But, the IB authors assert that Congress must implement new community care legislation to ensure that veterans receive health care, either at VA or in their communities. …
