Shonda Rhimes Picks Up Rights to Con Artist Story - Reports

In the first deal under her new overall arrangement at Netflix, Shonda Rhimes has reportedly acquired the rights to a magazine piece about a real life con artist working the New York social scene.

Rhimes is attached to write a series adaptation of the piece about Anna Delvey, who has been charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and theft of services but has pleaded not guilty. The article, by Jessica Pressler, appeared in a recent issue of New York Magazine.

The series, if it goes ahead, would be the first created by Rhimes herself since Scandal.

Rhimes’ Shondaland company signed its groundbreaking overall deal with Netflix last August, moving over to the global streamer from ABC Studios.

Netflix has also announced two new series orders, one of a drama from Friday Night Lights writer-producer Jason Katims, the other of a dark comedy from production companies All3Media and Brightstar. …
