After David Oistrakh's long-awaited emergence in the West in the 1950s, Deutsche Grammophon eagerly signed him up. However, the Soviet authorities and their record label Melodiya restricted access to further recordings in Germany. After complex negotiations, a few collaborations remain, allowing today's listener a unique insight into the skill of this peerless musician. With his flawless technique and compelling artistry, David Oistrakh set new standards in the mid-20th century, both in the concert hall and in his gramophone recordings. The Bach and Vivaldi double concertos with his son Igor held a special place in their programs and remain benchmark performances today.
