In 2015, singer-songwriter Ruth В (the В stands for Berhe, her last name) became a viral sensation after posting her composition "Lost Boy" on the Internet. Propelled by the success of the poignant Peter Pan-inspired tune, the 22-yearold Edmonton resident then won a 2017 Juno Award for breakthrough artist of the year.

In the liner notes for her debut fulllength album, Safe Haven, she writes: "I hope you can find pieces of yourself buried somewhere in here ... the joy, sadness, confusion, understanding, love, heartbreak, or youth of these songs is up to you."

The compositions of Berhe, who also plays piano on the 12 tracks, will strike a chord with anyone familiar with hookup culture. The velvetvoiced singer offers reflections on one such encounter on the tune "Mixed Signals": "The goodbyes, the hellos, the I need yous/ The no I don't every time I start to close the door. …
