Every two years, the Society pauses on these pages to express its thanks to the outgoing immediate past president. It's time to do so again. With the exchange or the gavel at the recent convention, we want to acknowledge the commitment of Dr. Timothy Hulsey to Phi Kappa Phi these past fourteen years and bid him a fond farewell from board service.

Tim was initiated by the Virginia Commonwealth University chapter in 2004 while serving as director of honors there. The chapter immediately put him to work on its executive board, later nominating him for a distinguished membership. After serving on the Love of Learning Committee, he was elected to the board as vice president for chapter relations in 2010. During that biennium, he also served as education columnist for the Forum and a member of the search committee for the executive director. After leaving the board, he chaired a task lorce on chapter criteria and the petition process in 2013.

Tim didn't know it, but we weren't done with him yet. In February 2014, following the unexpected death of President-elect Ray Sylvester, President Diane Smathers asked Tim to consider stepping in as president for the 2014-16 biennium, and true to his faithful commitment to the .Society, he agreed.

An enthusiastic champion of students, Tim could always be counted on to share advice on many subjects. His tales of travel adventures, teaching, growing up in Oklahoma, playing football, and early college years at Baylor University entertained colleagues over meals and his favorite IPAs. …
