VFW Receives $443,000 for Pre-Discharge Claims Work

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) gave VFW more than $443,000 in October to help more transitioning troops file VA claims before they are discharged.

"Helping servicemen and women to successfully transition out of the military and into the VA is a crucial part of VFW's mission, and we are grateful to the Wounded Warrior Project for its continued support of this shared mission," VFW Commander-in-Chief B.J. Lawrence said.

The grant will be used to support VFW's Pre-Discharge Claims Program. Located on two dozen of America's largest military installations, the program's "Benefits Delivery at Discharge" sites are staffed with VFW service officers who guide troops through the VA's claims process prior to discharge.

The service officers also answer questions about topics such as GI Bill programs, medical benefits and VA home loans. …
