Impact Awards Gala

"Roma" star Yalitza Aparicio, "Queen of the South's" Veronica Falcon and "Westworld" actor Clifton Collins Jr. were honored at the National Hispanic Media Coalition's 22nd annual event, as were the Starz series "Vida" and Pantelion Films. "We're waiting for film to catch up to television for sure," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star and gala co-host Stephanie Beatriz said about Latino representation in Hollywood. "So there's a lot of work to be done there, but I think we've started to see the beginnings of improvement behind the scenes and behind the camera in terms of writers' rooms and producers and directors."

Black Women in Hollywood Awards

Jenifer Lewis, who was honored at the 12th annual Essence luncheon along with Regina Hall, Amandla Stenberg and KiKi Layne, recalled flipping through her first issue of the magazine when she was just 13 years old in 1970 and reading stories about black political pioneer Shirley Chisholm, activist Angela Davis and singeractress Eartha Kitt. "And then I opened the page, and there was Aretha [Franklin] telling me I was young, gifted and black," the "Black-ish" star said. "So I take my hat off to Essence. They've only gotten better and better and better."
