Dear NCEA Members,

As this issue of Momentum arrives in your mailboxes, Catholic school educators from across the United States (and beyond) are gathered in Chicago for the NCEA 2019 Convention & Expo. Our host, the Archdiocese of Chicago, selects a theme for each school year, this year being "Faith to Move Mountains." On their website, they share,

"As Christ tells us in die 17th Chapter of Matthew, God's faith can help us to do great things. Even faith as small as a "mustard seed" can enable us to move mountains! As we look to the future of our schools with confidence, we know we have some mountains to move. Momentum is building in spite of all challenges, and our faith provides us with constant strength and comfort."

1 have the honor to see this spirit put into action as I visit schools and dioceses across the country. As an example from earlier this year, I was able to visit some of the schools in Diocese of Sacramento that welcomed displaced public school students from the wildfires in California. When unexpected tragedy like this arises, it is difficult for families to look forward with hope. However, the community' of Catholic schools (both those in the diocese that opened their doors and those across the country that contributed to the relief) did help ease this challenging time by bringing some sense of normalcy back to their lives: a safe, reliable place for children to be educated. This is just one way Catholic schools show an outstanding commitment to mission and recognize that our work is bigger than any of us individually. …
