This month marks the 15th anniTversary of Pat Tillman's death in Afghanistan. On April 22, 2004, Tillman and a member of the Afghan National Army were tragically killed by friendly fire during a firefight in Spera, Afghanistan, about 135 miles south of Kabul in eastern Afghanistan. Two other U.S. soldiers were wounded.

In June 2002, Tillman enlisted in the Army with his brother, Kevin. In doing so, Pat turned down a $3.6 million NFL contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Kevin, likewise, left behind a professional baseball career with the Cleveland Indians to serve the nation. Both men were members of the 2nd Bn., 75th Ranger Regt.

Tillman told NFL Films that the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks had him questioning his priorities.

"I play football, and it just see ms so unimportant compare d to everything that's taken place," he said in 2002. "My grandfather was at Pearl Harbor, and a lot of my family has gone and fought in wars, and I really haven't done a damn thing. …
