Department Quartermaster Incentive Program Fires Off

More than 30 VFW Departments hit 92 percent membership by Jan. 1. Of those, 28 opted to receive a rifle from Henry Repeating Arms as part of the newest membershipincentive program.

Department of Hawaii Quartermaster Norbert Enos was one of those who opted for the rifle. He said Hawaii set its membership goal early, even before the earlybird incentive program was announced.

"[The incentive program] made me happy because it was something that wasn't there before for the quartermasters," Enos said, "and the quartermasters do a lot, and I always emphasize to the Post [level to] always recognize quartermasters."

Enos chose the rifle as his reward from the program, noting that he plans to use it for "sportsmanship" with his inlaws. He also said it could be inherited by family "down the road."

VFW Commander-in-Chief B.J. Lawrence developed the Department Quartermaster Early Bird Incentive program last year to allow quartermasters an opportunity to earn recognition.

"Department quartermasters are an important driving force for our accomplishments and successes," Lawrence previously told VFW magazine. "I feel it is important to recognize our Department quartermasters and give them an opportunity to participate in an awards program as well."

Every Department that reached 92 percent in membership by Jan. 1 was given the option of receiving a Henry Repeating Arms .30-30 caliber rifle or a Veterans Travel Services credit voucher of equal value.

"The Henry rifle award incentive is an excellent opportunity to recognize these hard-working professionals for their contributions to our great organization," said Lawrence, who thanked Henry for its contribution to the program. …
