OMG! What a disc. Emmet Cohen states in the liner notes that this is volume one of a series he wants to produce to honor some greats in this music we call jazz. This is one fine beginning. Six of the tunes have been performed by Jimmy Cobb during his long career. The disc ends with an original written by Emmet Cohen to honor and feature this marvelous drummer. It is an up tempo tune and a perfect ending for a wonderful compact disc. Mr. Cohen also penned Mr. Robinson which is a blues to honor the hall of fame baseball player, Jackie Robinson. The tune reflects the hard work and trials experienced by this baseball great. Emmet also wrote Folk Song. Emmet composes music as well as he plays and he is one fine performer. There is not a weak moment in this recording. I only wish that Godwin Louis had performed on more than Folk Song and Hard Times.

Mr. Cohen began lessons on the piano at the age of three. His education includes a bachelor of music degree from the Frost School of Music, the University of Miami. He received a masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Shelly Berg. Currently he is the house Hammond B3 artist at the Smoke Club in Manhattan. …
