My church is having difficulty meeting the budget. We've always tuned the organ twice each year. If we can only afford one tuning, when should it be?

We are facing this dilemma more and more frequendy. We recommend tuning twice a year to coincide with the change in heating to air-conditioning and back again. A room heats from the ceiling down and cools from the floor up. The organ is frequendy somewhere in the middle of that vertical span. To take advantage of the church year, we almost always prefer fall tuning over spring tuning because we find the church calendar is less movable and the weather more predictable. Generally, fall and early winter events are fixed on the calendar while the most important spring event is always changing. We like to do a thorough tuning in the fall and perhaps just a touch up of the reeds soon before Easter so the organ sounds its best for this most important of miraculous events. …
