Welcome to the November issue of Stage Directions. In addition to a range of stories on theater artisans and their work, we have the Stage Directions Education Directory. This is a listing of schools and training programs across the country that support theater education. We hope that you find this directory a useful tool when looking at theater programs for yourself, your students, or recommendations for others.

In my years of working in theater-and now covering the work of theater artisans-I have found that to be a touchstone truth. Training in theater is a great background for just about anything that you want to do in life and throughout your life. You learn something new in theater every day that may change your approach or thinking.

This month, we have a number of articles that reinforce this thought on theater training. We have scenic designer Natalie Taylor Hart who also teaches, sharing her thoughts on creating dynamic, interesting, and fun ways to engage students. She offers advice on how to be "educating thinkers and practitioners rather than listeners".
