Ex-Orange Park Mayor Charged; Fondling Complaint Leads to Summons

Former Orange Park Mayor Garry McIntyre now faces criminal charges stemming from a woman's allegations he fondled her during a non-routine security check at Town Hall.

A civil suit has already been filed against McIntyre, who lost his Town Council re-election bid last month after the allegations were made public.

Now he faces a misdemeanor battery charge that is punishable by up to a year in county jail and a fine of $1,000.

Assistant State Attorney Steve Siegel said McIntyre was served a summons yesterday that lists an arraignment date of April 29. Siegel said the decision to file charges came at the end of a lengthy investigation by his office.

When reached yesterday, McIntyre refused to speak with the Times-Union.

His attorney in the civil suit, Victor M. Halbach Jr. of Jacksonville, said he has not been hired to represent McIntyre in criminal proceedings and knew nothing about the charges. …
