O'Brien Remains Upbeat on Euro Chances

Newcastle United go into their last three games of the season sweating on a place in the Champions League next season after yesterday's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa left Sir Bobby Robson's side with just a single point from their last four games, (writes ALAN OLIVER).

But central defender Andy O'Brien typified the mood of the United players when he said: "Our destiny is in our own hands and I don't see any reason why we should not win our last three games.

"Yes, we have had a bit of a poor run but the most positive thing before the run-in is that we are in fourth place - not fifth.

"And if we do finish fourth then we are in the Champions League again. Obviously it looks as though it is going to go right down to the wire and that does not bother us.

"It's been an exciting season and we have proved that we can take the pressure any big games throw up."

O'Brien himself has come back into the United side in some style alongside Jonathan Woodgate after the experience of playing him at right-back in the defeat at Everton did not work out. …
