Farm Walk Puts ELS in the Open

Farmers will be able to find out more about Defra's environmental Entry Level Scheme at a farm walk organised by Tyne Tees FWAG.

The evening walk is to be held at Low Park Wall Farm, Barnard Castle, which is within the pilot area for the new Entry Level Scheme. The farm is also in an existing Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

Those attending the event on May 6 will be able to find out about the process of applying for ELS and the different options available, as there will be speakers from FWAG, English Nature, the RSPB, English Heritage and Defra. Workshops will be held at FWAG's Barnard Castle office the following day.

Dairy produce to the fore

EGGS, cheese and dairy products will be the main focus of this month's Berwick Farmers' Market this Sunday.

Because of the popularity of the event, the market will expand into the parking area outside the Maltings for the summer season.

This month the market is featuring three local companies, from the Bowmont Valley and Kelso in the Scottish Borders, and from Blagdon in South Northumberland. …
