At these testing times, it is precipitant upon us to reflect on the Joys Of Life. Those things that we don't appreciate until they're taken from us. The things that we would miss if we were ever to be denied them.

How sad would we be if the world was without whelks? How often have you thought about it, but then moved on, with a shrug of your shoulders. The `there'll always be whelks' shrug, as it's known.

What if Sally Gunnell's interviewing skills . . . "That's amazing. Unbelievable. I couldn't believe my eyes. You must be over the moon...." . were to be denied us for ever? The world would be a smaller place.

What if Ruby Wax was to be struck dumb? It doesn't bear thinking about, does it? What if George Best wasn't to write again? We wouldn't be as informed as we are now. Who he likes, who he doesn't like, what he did this week, and what his wife has bought. Truly riveting stuff. I don't think I could cope.

What if Ian Wright was to walk away from television presenting? …
