Henman Bids to Get Back Winning Feeling in Short

TIM HENMAN is determined to "get back into the habit of winning" and revive a tennis season that threatened to cast him in the role of a frustrated spectator, writes Chris Jones.

The British No1 (above) defeated Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 at the BMW Open in Munich on his least favourite clay surface to claim only his second victory of an injury-hit season.

The match was only Henman's fifth since shoulder surgery last year that required another MRI scan before he was cleared to compete in Munich.

"I'm hitting the ball well but it's all about confidence on the match court," Henman said. "I need to compete as much as possible and get back into the habit of winning.

"There's an element of relief and also satisfaction, it's been difficult in the last few weeks. I've put a lot of work in building up my strength. We will see how it feels. That's the most important thing." Henman will now play Austria's Stefan Koubek for a place in the last eight. …
