Cheshire are determined to make Durham pay for falling at the final hurdle in last season's Tetley's County Championship.

Cheshire lost 26-23 to Gloucester in last year's final at Twickenham - and they want to go back there and put that right this season and they intend starting with Durham at Macclesfield today.

"We were well beaten at Twickenham despite the scoreline," said secretary Graeme Marrs. "But we are determined to go back again. I suspect that if we play to our full potential, then we may be looking at a semi-final against Gloucestershire at New Brighton on May 17."

Cheshire will be skippered by New Brighton's Mark Dorrington, who represented the Barbarians last season and one of the incentives for players taking part in this season's Tetley's County Championship is the chance of a place in the England Counties squad to tour Romania and France.

Durham, coached by Phil Lancaster (Darlington) with John Groves (Horden) chairman of selectors, have finalised their team. …
