The business with the High Level Bridge being painted has been addressed umpteen times in the Chronicle. The bridge has never been painted and is actually owned by Railtrack due to the fact it's got a railway bridge on top of it. It's never ever been painted and it never will be painted, because it's made out of cast iron and I believe it's also a listed building so it couldn't be painted so please stop writing and asking for it to be painted.

I TOTALLY agree with the lady from South Shields about trouble on the Metro. A week or two ago at 4.30pm on the Metro from Wallsend to Monument, the busy train was in an absolute uproar with three 10 or 11-year olds who smoked, stood on seats and swung to try and kick out windows. Apart from one or two oldies like myself, no one took any notice, an everyday occurrence no doubt. I decided when I got to Monument, I would approach the Metro employees to point the children out. By this time, the boys had thrown their lighted cigarettes back down the escalator on to whoever happened to be passing at the time. …
