Girl, 12, Is Killed in Car Horror

A 12-year-old girl died and three teenagers were hurt when the car they were in smashed into a tree.

The youngsters, whose names have not been released, were in a Citroen Saxo car which was travelling along the B1257 Stokesley to Helmsley road last night.

The driver, a seventeen-year-old boy from Middlesbrough, sustained minor injuries.

A North Yorkshire police spokesman said his other two passengers, a teenage girl from Stokesley and a teenage boy from Middlesbrough, also escaped with minor injuries.

All four were taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital, but the 12-year-old died as a result of her injuries.

The accident happened at around 11pm, a quarter of a mile north of the road's junction with Greenhow Avenue.

The dark grey car was travelling towards Stokesley when it left the road

on its off-side and collided with the tree.
