An extended Bank Holiday weekend turned into a real success for County Durham angler Mark Robson when he enjoyed a three-day piking visit to Loch Maben.

Mark caught pike from three different spots and accounted for seven double-figure fish, topped by a personal best of 17lb 12oz which fell to a lamprey portion float-fished in only three feet of water.

Eden Meadows continues to offer superb sport with mixed nets of over 50lb coming from the day ticket County Durham fishery. Whittle Dene is still proving popular, with over 300 day tickets sold since the season began. Recently some plump little gudgeon have been adding to the dace, roach and perch sport, but catches are set to improve further.

Leazes Park, which reopened its doors recently to angling, is also seeing an increase in activity.

In the West, Lonsdale, Crofton Lake and Whins are all fishing well with one superb all-tench catch of 37lb coming from the Penrith fishery, while Dave and Colin Bond shared a double-figure catch of splendid roach around the 12oz mark from Deer Lake. …
